Holiday Season Blessings

This year stands out to me as one of the best in a very long time.  I lost my dad in 2011 and my mom in 2015.   In between that time there was turmoil among family members which just made get-togethers somewhat uncomfortable and tense  We've also had 2 new grand kids during this time.   These last several years have had so much change.

Since then, we've, or at least I, have been trying to build some new traditions.  Something that is solid to look forward to every year in getting ready for such a hectic time of year.  From Thanksgiving through January we have many birthdays along with the holidays.  It's almost constant.

This year I feel we achieved the new traditions I craved and found a happy medium that everyone can enjoy.  It makes this time of year so much more enjoyable and I'm so glad we've finally got to this point.

Although I miss mom and dad terribly and the holidays will always

Greatful for the canned meat I put up

I don't know about you but I seem to be getting exteremly lazy this last month of the year.  Maybe it's because it's dark so much.

I've not been on the treadmill for a month now and don't see it happening till next year.  It's so wrong for kind of mindset I know, but I do know I'll get back on it, just not now.

Coming home from work in the dark makes me feel like I want to go straight to bed, so fixing supper is definitely not first on my mind.  I'm greatful that I put up  so much ground deer last year and late

Shopping

I really hate going to the store to go shopping.  Anybody else with me here?  Just something about all those people, loud kids and adults, lack of manners, traffic and waiting in line.  I'm just not real good with any of it.  I've discovered shopping online is SOOOO much easier and makes me so much happier.

Did you know you can even buy groceries online?  Apparently, I'm a slow learner, but as long as I

So many cool ideas

Cruising through the web I run across some of the coolest ideas.  Pinterest lets me gather those ideas to go back and look at or use at my leisure, but don't ya just wish you could put all those ideas to use in several different houses (cause there are so many different styles).  Apparently, I'm fairly eclectic cause I like a lot of completely different styles, that would not always work all in the same place.

You know when you try to put together a dream home in your head (just playing, mind you) you look

That week went FAST

I went back to work a week ago after a week off for vacation.  Vacation was AWESOME!!!!  I almost got through my entire "To Do" list.  Wasn't too worried about getting it all done though.

Got home from town Tuesday after all my errands and didn't have to leave the house again until Saturday.  I could seriously do that all the time.  My house was clean the entire week, I got to cook supper every night, and my laundry was all done all week.

After a week back to work, I can honestly say, I didn't miss the office at all.  It used to be when I went on vacation, I was ready to go back to work afterwards.  Not this time.  It's not that I don't like what I do, cause I really do like the work.  I just don't want to do it anymore.  I don't want to drive 50 miles a day to and from work anymore.  I want my farm animals, my garden and my little piece of country and to be able to do something to pay the monthly bills.  Nothing more and nothing less.

There are some things I'd like to get, but nothing big.  I'm not a car person, I'm not all about clothes and definitely don't do jewelry.  I do have a passion for stray dogs, which could be a bad thing.  To me all dogs are cute and I want to help them all:)

I suppose it could all be worse, so I shouldn't complain, right?  One day I'll think of something I can do to work for myself and make what I need to support this little farm of ours.  Until then......

Tomorrow will last FOREVER!!

My vacation starts Monday, so tomorrow will likely last FOREVER!!!

I get to pick up my grand-daughter, Z, tomorrow, so that will be fun.  We'll have a great time and laugh and it will be a great start for my vacation.  Her smiling face always makes it all good.  She's growing up so very fast and I haven't seen her in 2 weeks.  Each time I see her, she's just that much more grown up.  I don't remember it going so fast when my son was little.

My brakes have gone out too.  So my husband and brother are so kind as to change those for me tomorrow.  That will cost me a bit, but at least there's no labor (besides lunch and ice cream).  Can't complain, haven't had too much problem with that car and next month is my last payment.  YAY!!!

There's so many things I want to get done next week.  My list includes deep cleaning, you know, like windows, and Z's toy box, my closet:-).  I also want to get a mess of cooking done, to be frozen for supper and breakfast later.  And strangely I'd like to get some vacation type stuff done too (reading, web surfing and maybe a movie), how dare I, right?.  I'll see, I may pick and choose to get a little bit of everything in.

We aren't getting a lot of stuff bought for our little homestead, BUT....we are getting some of the necessary property work done which needs to be done first anyway, AND our biggest upcoming accomplishment is getting things paid off.  We are very close to being debt-free which, in my humble opinion, would be the important accomplishment in the long run.

I supposed I should get though the next week before I get into paying off everything over the next year or two.  Baby steps:-)  I guess I'll see what all I can get done over the next week then move on to bigger & better things.  There's not enough days to get everything on my list done since I continue to add to it constantly, but I can try.  Who knows...

Did you take your vacation yet?  What did you do, where did you go?

Til later!!

It's been a while

It's been a while since I posted.  Been busy with working, the grand-daughter, Z and life.  New news!!!!....a new grand-son is on the way, due around the end of December.  So cool, but still a little scary for a grandma:-)  I've learned why we have our kids at a younger age....cause I wear out these day.  I also know why grandparents are at an older age:-)   We are SO MUCH more patient.  It all works out the way it's supposed to.

It's been a VERY hot summer.  Was 105 yesterday and even hotter today.  It's really hard to get anything done outside, although, my dear husband spent about 3 hours outside mowing, while I cleaned house.  At least I was cool.

I get to start vacation in a week.  So looking forward to that.  Got a list started of all the stuff I want to get done. I'll probably only get a few items done, but that's okay.  Even a few things done will make me happy.

Lost our water last weekend due to the line into the house cracking.  Man, did that suck.  Had to take Z home early since we didn't have water.  Finally got it fixed Sunday about noon.  What a mess.  But we do get to update the connection from the well at the water pump to the house.  Hopefully the rest of the line holds until we get to replace it!!!

I use Z's pool to sit in once in a while to stay cool, and it works great.  Hope everyone is having a great week and staying cool.  Talk to you all in a week or so:-)

Let me know what's on your mind.

About Me

I'm a country girl working in the city (50 miles/day). I want to learn all I can about how to do for myself. My husband and I dream of a self-reliant homestead where we can live and work together, raising chickens, goats and rabbits, and growing and canning our own food.
